CHARACTER INFO

Journal: 1st-do-no-harm
Name: First Aid
Age: Appears mid 20s in human form; chronological age is more or less irrelevant to robots so let's just call him the equivalent.
Canon: G1(fusion)

NOTA BENE: First Aid has a more recent canon iteration in the IDW comics, which has developed him somewhat more than in G1. Although it is not influence free, it is less of an influence on this version of the character for both history (IDW First Aid is not part of a combiner team) and personality (IDW First Aid is, frankly, a hot mess.)

Canon Point: Just after the 1986 Transformers movie, before the Hate Plague Arc.

Canon World
Transformers (G1) refers to the original Transformers universe of the 1984 cartoon series, which ran for 3.5 seasons, including a movie that played in theatres in 1986. (The movie was set 20 years after the first two-ish seasons of the cartoon and then timeskipped.) First Aid is a battlefield medic and medical assistant who appears in just one epically bad episode (seriously, there's a drinking game) as part of a gestalt team, the Protectobots, who are tasked specifically with disaster relief and more civilian roles than direct combat against the Decepticons. In the later story arcs, First Aid is promoted to the primary medic of the series/setting after the death of Ratchet (fanonically agreed on as his mentor) in the 1986 movie.

Transformers are Cybertronians, sentient robotic beings from the planet Cybertron who are fighting in a long and bloody civil war between two factions, the good-guy Autobots and bad-guy Decepticons. Earth has gotten caught up in this conflict after the Autobots, fleeing Cybertron, crash land there and their ship is buried in a volcanic explosion for 9.5 million years, uncovered only by an earthquake in 1986. Their natural abilities include the ability to use multiple forms (alt modes) both for transportation and work purposes as well as camoflauge or adaptation to a variety of environments. On Earth, they take on the forms of earth vehicles- the Autobots primarily (although not exclusively) civilian vehicles and cars and the Decepticons primarily military vehicles and aircraft. Their ongoing conflict on Earth provides most of the stories for the series.

History
-Built some time in the past on Cybertron with gestaltmates Hot Spot, Groove, Blades, and Streetwise, and arrives on earth circa 1987 as reinforcements for the Autobots stationed there. (Canon varies but it is implied that both the Protectobots were not on the original ship that crashed on earth and additionally that they were designed and built for civil defense purposes despite the ongoing war; even their combined gestalt form's primary weapon is defensive rather than offensive.) First Aid initially serves as battlefield medic/transport and an assistant to Ratchet, the Autobots' CMO.
-First Aid spends the next 18 years occasionally as a participant in the war against the Decepticons but mostly working with his gestalt brothers as liasons to human disaster-relief forces, including helping to build Autobot City in northern Africa (presumed to be Morocco)
-In 2005, the Decepticons attack Autobot City and concurrently hijack a space shuttle carrying most of the AUtobot leadership and command staff.) Optimus Prime, the overall leader of the AUtobots is among the casualties as is Ratchet. First Aid is apparently promoted to CMO in the aftermath by the new Prime, Rodimus.

-There is, frankly, very little canon for First Aid in G1 - he appears in a few episodes as a minor character, had a really cute but very basic little toy, and some limited appearances in the Marvel comics fo the early 90s. The summary above is an expansion on canon with minimal fanon inserted to make things make more sense. (Seriously. His canon first appearance is widely considered to be the WORST Transformers episode of all time for sheer incoherency.)

Personality

First Aid was created to be a healer and helper, and has never truly wanted anything else. Despite the typical role of combiner teams as 'the big guns', he is a pacifist, and the team that he is part of tends to function primarily in a defensive role, fighting only when pressed or in defense of others. (hah, see what I did there?) Individually, he is completely opposed to violence towards other living beings. Causing pain is sometimes an inevitability as a part of medical care, but he truly abhors violence and refuses to do so, even in defense. This brings him into conflict with his brothers occasionally and the Autobots at large more frequently; while some of them accept it as just part of who he is, others feel that he is a liability as a combat medic and are dismissive of his abilities outside of the battlefield. He mostly deals with this by being nice to them. Sincerely nice. Like he doesn't even notice them being jerks. Exactly how much of Cybertronians' personality is programmed in along with their function and how much comes from their spark (basicaly consider it a soul except it's visible and possibly radioactive) is hotly debated in Cybertronian theology; First Aid doesn't really have a side in the arguments but he can't imagine being anything other than a medic, and his aversion to causing harm is code deep. Forcing him to participate in violence in some way- even simulated violence like training exercises, results in massive amounts of stress for him to the point of physical problems. (In human form, this is likely to translate as migraines at best and seizures at worst. Poor woobie.) In the case of being threatened with harm to himself if he did not harm others, he would have no qualms about resisting; if others were threatened with harm if he did not hurt someone, he would have a much more difficult time knowing what to do. (And probably wouldn't be able to make a decision, honestly.)

Like his history, G1 canon is dang spotty for First Aid; this characterization is strongly influenced by fanon, particularly the work of Plays With Worms in her "Protectobot Beginnings" verse, who is probably the most prolific First Aid and Protectobot writer in the fandom. His work as a liason with humans and in disaster relief is mentioned in canon but has been elaborated on by Tainry in her epic "Borealis".

Special Abilities
General abilities - transforms from a bipedal robot ('root mode') into a smallish ambulance for transport of patients out of critical zones. 1 component of the combiner-form robot Defensor (Aid is the right arm). As part of Defensor, he's capable of generating a super heavy duty force field for a short period of time, but he can't access this ability outside of their combined form. As a robot, he is equipped with an inbuilt gun called a decrystallizer cannon, which forces solid molecular structures (I'm quoting, don't tell me this is dumb, I didn't make it up) to become brittle enough to break with a touch. It's strong enough to take out the armor of the most heavily armored Transformers, if Aid could ever bring himself to use it on a person. (See Personality section). However, mostly it is used in clearing debris in disaster areas.

First Aid is primarily a combat medic but has stepped up to be the primary medic for Autobot City; however, his disaster relief work offers him a fair amount of experience dealing with organics (primarily humans, but also some of the Autobots' other alien allies, and knowing him, he's very likely downloaded veterinary information as well.) As a medic, he carries his tools with him, both a variety of diagnostic equipment and surgical tools.

Having woken up human in Silent Hill, none of his special abilities are accessible to him, but presumably his knowledge and skills are intact, although working with human-scale tools and without his inbuilt scanners and diagnostics may take a bit of getting used to.

SAMPLES

(I've previously only played First Aid in a MUSH format and while some logs are still available, the format is sufficiently different that I've written samples to submit instead.)

Network post:

It's not that he's never used a cell phone but it's distinctly odd to have to type on one like a datapad rather than simply using a comm protocol Blaster had written for everyone. "Is anyone out there? This is First Aid, I'm with the Autobots.... I can't find the rest of my team but I think we're here to help. Is anyone reading this?" He hits send before thinking better of it, and then adds another line. "I'm not sure exactly where I am, it looks like some sort of tunnel?"
